Tymir Brown was ready for a new start in his college football career.

That’s why the Jacksonville graduate recently committed to play for East Carolina after two seasons at North Carolina.

“I look forward to getting the opportunity to play for them,” Brown said. “I am ready to meet everybody and get to know all of my teammates and build relationship with them.”

The 20-year-old Brown still has three years of remaining eligibility.

He joined the Tar Heels after he graduated high school in 2021, but didn’t receive much playing time. But Brown entered the transfer portal, which opened the door for him to join the Pirates. He will officially join East Carolina after he enrolls in January.

“My high school coach, Beau Williams, helped me out finding some connections and my cousin, Dekota Marshall is an ECU alumni and he helped me get my name out there,” Brown said. “So once I entered my name in the portal, having those connections helped.”

Brown was a three-star prospect, was a member of the ESPN 300 list as a high school senior and was a three-time all-area player.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback was recruited by ECU and the Pirates’ head coach Mike Houston and his coaching staff remained aware of him while he was at North Carolina. After meeting with Houston, Brown knew ECU was the right place.

“They had recruited me since I was in the ninth grade so they still knew about me,” Brown said. “I feel like they know my skill level. They pretty told me that if I come in and work hard then I would get my opportunity. I know it won’t be given to me, but I know what it takes to be successful.

“The last two seasons weighed on me a little bit, but I know what I can do. I kept my mind straight and I look forward to this second chance.”
