See how celebrities are helping others as Thanksgiving and the holiday season arrive
'Tis the season to give back!
As many people focus on family and fun this season, there are those who have greater needs at the holidays and all year 'round. And recently, some celebrities have been stepping in to help, serving meals and donating gifts in hopes of spreading holiday cheer.
Here, photos of stars including Chrissy Teigen and John Legend (and their kids) and even Disney's Mickey and Minnie lending a hand during the 2023 holidays.
The Teigen-Legend Family
Prior to Thanksgiving, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend brought their oldest children, daughter Luna and son Miles, to help out at their local Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in Los Angeles,
“We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon with families,” Legend told PEOPLE of teaming up with the organization, which provides support and housing for the families of sick children. “These families come from all over, and their kids are being treated at Children’s Hospital and it’s really difficult for families to deal with that. We were happy to come and cook for them and spend some time.”
“We try to teach [our kids] that it’s important to give back and to help other people,” he added. “They’ve gone with us to help feed people who are hungry, they’ve gone to homeless shelters with us. We try to teach them to be appreciative of what they have and also know that there are a lot of people that don’t have the privileges that they do, so we should do what we can to help them.”
Julie Bowen
Ahead of Turkey Day, Julie Bowen distributed pies alongside Feeding America at Union Station Homeless Services in Pasadena, California.
Tayshia Adams, Bridget Moynahan and Emma Roberts
Also lending a hand with Feeding America were Tayshia Adams, Bridget Moynahan and Emma Roberts, who joined forces at a holiday event at Urban Outreach Center of N.Y.C.
Kandi Burruss
Alongside mother Joyce Jones, Kandi Burruss helped hand out turkeys and sides on Nov. 21 at the 2023 Kandi C.A.R.E.S Foundation Thanksgiving Grocery Store Pop-Up in East Point, Georgia.
Bobby Berk
Queer Eye star Bobby Berk brought the cheer with Minted, decorating L.A.'s My Friend's Place and hosting a holiday meal there for the unhoused youth served by the organization.
Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek
Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek visited families at Boston Children's Hospital just before Thanksgiving on behalf of their social-impact digital sweepstakes platform Voomerang, bringing gifts for the kids they met.
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse
Characters can give back, too! Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse recently joined Disney "VoluntEARS" at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to pack more than 86,000 food packets for Rise Against Hunger. At other parks across the globe, the beloved twosome and their colleagues have plans to cook for Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, pack food at California's OC Food Bank and give time at the Galveston Food Bank in Texas.
Luca Facinelli
Luca Facinelli, daughter of Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli, kicked off the season at the Cookie Pop and Candy Pop gingerbread house making event in N.Y.C. to benefit the brands' #GivingTuesday campaign with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation.
Melissa Villaseñor
SNL alumna Melissa Villaseñor made a pre-Thanksgiving visit to Seacrest Studios at Children's National hospital in Washington, D.C., to read books and share smiles.
"Thank you to the patients who shared their stories and made this such a special time," she wrote on Instagram. "Wishing the best for these kiddos. P.S. Donations this holiday season light up Dr. Bear, their mascot, at the hospital to brighten patients' days."
Tray Chaney
The Wire's Tray Chaney was among the many celebs who helped Marjorie Harvey collect and distribute nearly 500 toys for the James T. Anderson Boys and Girls Club in Marietta, Georgia, and Hosea Helps in Atlanta during the Night of Giving at the Celebrity Top Golf Toy Drive in Atlanta. The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation's goal is to distribute at least 1,000 toys to kids throughout this holiday season.
