Starbucks' New Frappuccino Flavor Is a Trip to the State Fair

How often does Starbucks introduce a new Frappuccino? Frankly, my sarcastic instinct would be to say, "Probably every 20 seconds?" But though Starbucks does have a propensity for continually rolling out new products, new Fraps have actually become quite rare. To wit, Starbuck has just announced its 2021 summer menu—launching across the U.S. and Canada today—and, yes, it does include a new Frappuccino, but it's actually the chain's first official new Frap flavor in three years: the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino.

This new "fairs, festivals, and amusement parks"-inspired Frappuccino is billed by Starbucks as featuring "a nostalgic flavor reminiscent of carefree summer moments," featuring "layers of strawberry puree and whipped cream swirled with a funnel cake flavored Frappuccino, topped with crunchy powdered sugar funnel cake pieces." The blended beverage—which, like all Starbucks drinks, can be customized to your liking with non-dairy milks like the recently-added Oatly or other tweaks—will be available for a limited time while supplies last.

And that's just the headliner of Starbucks' summer seasonal menu which the brand is calling "As Summer As Possible"—or A.S.A.P., which apparently is how fast they are looking for summer to start despite being over a month early! The other big returning addition is the popular Unicorn Cake Pop, looking to answer the question "Are unicorns still trendy in 2021?"

And then for anyone in need of a reminder about Starbucks best warm-weather drinks from their year-round menu, the chain also suggests customers can "continue to enjoy the Caramel Ribbon Crunch and Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino blended beverages and a variety of colorful Starbucks Refreshers beverages, including the Dragon Drink, Pink Drink, Mango Dragonfruit Starbuck Refreshers beverage and Strawberry Açaí Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers beverage."

So is that all the summer Starbucks can possibly give? Only time, and the inevitable next new drink, will tell.
