How about some olive oil with your morning cup of joe?

Starting Tuesday, coffee lovers can get Starbucks' new Oleato coffee drink at all the coffee giant’s locations across the U.S. and Canada, the company announced on Monday.

First rolled out last February in Italy, Starbucks Oleato beverage pairs its coffee with a spoonful of the Partanna brand of extra virgin olive oil. Seattle-based Starbucks calls the beverage mix a “velvety smooth, deliciously lush coffee for customers to enjoy an elevated coffee experience.”

Last March, the beverages were available at only 15 company-operated stores across the U.S. Starbucks. The Oleato beverage may remind people how the keto diet pairs coffee with fats like coconut oil or grass-fed butter to make “bulletproof” coffee.

The new coffee-olive oil beverages, Starbucks said, are permanent menu items and available at company-owned and operated Starbucks locations.

The idea for Oleato came from Starbucks’ former interim CEO Howard Schultz. It was Schultz who, on his first trip to Italy decades ago, according to its website, got the idea for bringing the Italian coffeehouse concept to Starbucks coffee with only 11 locations at that time. (The global chain now has nearly 36,000 locations.)

But back in Italy last year, Schultz saw the "Mediterranean custom of consuming a spoonful of olive oil each day," according to starbucks.com. Schultz began adding that spoonful of extra virgin olive oil to his morning coffee.

The rollout of Starbucks Oleato with olive oil also includes the debut of new beverages. Starbucks Oleato Golden Foam Iced Shaken Espresso with Toffeenut featuring Starbucks Blonde espresso with toffee nut and oat milk topped with Oleato Golden foam – vanilla sweet cream cold foam infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil.

Its Oleato Caffé Latte with Oatmilk combines Starbucks Blonde Espresso Roast with creamy oat milk infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil. You can also add Oleato Golden Foam to any beverage.

Emails to Starbucks regarding the olive oil-infused coffee items were not returned.
