‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Celebrates Wrap With Twerking Stormtroopers

It still doesn’t have an official title — maybe because “Return of the Jedi” was already taken? — but after a lengthy shoot helmed by director Rian Johnson, principal production has finally concluded on Star Wars: Episode VIII. And to mark the occasion, star Mark Hamill has posted a video from the wrap party (watch it above), which featured…twerking stormtroopers?

Hamill took to Facebook earlier today to let it be known that the Force has successfully guided cast and crew to the Episode VIII finish line, as well as to provide fans with a quick peek at the festivities that helped commemorate the occasion. As you can see from the above video, that involved a troupe of dancing stormtroopers — a.k.a., Britain’s Got Talent finalists Boogie Storm — shaking their thing like they were in a Beyoncé video. One can only assume that’s not part of the stormtroopers’ mission in the forthcoming follow-up to J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens.

Singer Ellie Goulding also performed at the party.

And both John Boyega and Daisy Ridley shared pre-wrap party photos.

While details about Episode VIII’s plot remain shrouded in typical Star Wars secrecy, it is known that Johnson’s film will pick up where its predecessor ended, with Daisy Ridley’s Rey having her first face-to-face with Hamill’s (now-legendary) Luke Skywalker. An earlier Tumblr post by the director, featuring a photo of Skywalker’s robe in front of a rocky cliff resembling the setting of The Force Awakens’ last scene, seemed to confirm that assumption. While that locale looked familiar, Rey will apparently get some kind of new look in Episode VIII, as evidenced by the fact that, in a recent video of her workout routine, Ridley made sure to cover her head with a pillowcase “to protect my REY HAIRSTYLE from Instagram’s gaze.”

Before Johnson’s installment arrives in theaters in December 2017, fans will have their sci-fi cravings satisfied by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will serve as a prequel to 1977’s original Episode IV, and which is currently undergoing (potentially troublesome or just business as usual?) reshoots ahead of its Dec. 16, 2016, release.
