The Star Trek Universe is ever-expanding, and we got to hear all about where Paramount+ is boldly going with their existing shows (and potential new ones?) during San Diego Comic-Con today.

The Hall H audience (including SYFY WIRE) got to hear from the casts and executive producers from Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds during the franchise’s 1.5-hour panel. They also got treated to a new trailer for Season 3 of Picard featuring Sir Patrick Stewart as the titular Starfleet Admiral.

Check out the all-new trailer for Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard:

Lea Thompson, who directed two episodes of Picard Season 2, moderated the show’s part of the larger Trek panel. She was joined on stage by executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Rod Roddenberry, as well as Gates McFadden (“Dr. Beverly Krusher”), and Picard himself, Stewart.

The third season of Star Trek: Picard will find Jean-Luc's Enterprise crew from the series Star Trek: The Next Generation back together again, including McFadden, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, and Marina Sirtis.

TNG vet Brent Spiner, who has played several Data-related characters in Picard, as well a version of Data in Season 1, will once again be back for the show’s final episodes. “Brent Spiner is also going to be there and is going to be an old new character,” Kurtzman teased during the panel.

We also got some new posters for Picard, which you can check out below:

During the SDCC panel, the group talked about the third and final season of the show, where they all emphasized that bringing the TNG Enterprise crew together had to be earned, and that it will still take a while in Sesaon 3 for them all to come together. “At the beginning of the season, the crew is in different places around the galaxy and slowly we see them come together,” Kurtzman explained.

Kurtzman also teased about the singular villain we’ll see in Season 3, which he said was inspired by the tête-à-tête between Kirk and Khan in the classic movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. “That was a real North Star for us this season, with the villain,” Kurtzman said. “I won’t say too much other than to say that she is amazing.”

And speaking of strong female characters, Kurtzman, in response to a fan question, did tease that there will be Trek shows in the future with female leads. Later in the panel, he also mentioned they are developing two additional Trek shows, though he offered no more details than that.

Towards the end of the panel, Stewart was asked whether or not he'll sit in the captain's chair upon the Enterprise once again. “The captain's chair, the identical chair on the identical ship? I don’t think I do,” Stewart said. “There’s more than one Enterprise, and that makes it a little complicated. But we do return to the original Enterprise for awhile.”
