CBS All Access dropped a trailer for its highly anticipated new series “Star Trek: Picard” at New York Comic Con on Saturday, featuring a look at the former captain fighting the test of time in a Federation where he is no longer welcome.
The trailer opens in picturesque vineyard, with Data painting a cryptic portrait of a cloaked figure standing on the edge of a stormy sea. When a pensive-looking Picard slowly approaches, Data asks, “Would you like to finish it, Captain?”
Picard responds, “I don’t know how.”
Flash cuts of a space fight abruptly end with Picard seemingly waking from a dream. What follows is the captain determined to stand up for the Federation and “what it should still represent,” only to be harshly told, “This is no longer your house, Jean-Luc. Go home!”
Featuring the return of Sir Patrick Stewart as his “Star Trek: Next Generation” character Jean-Luc Picard, the new series follows the character in the next chapter in his life after hanging up his Starfleet badge and retreating to his family’s vineyard.
The 10-episode first season of “Star Trek: Picard” will debut on Jan. 23, 2020, with new episodes rolling out each subsequent Thursday.
Alongside Stewart, the series also stars Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Evan Evagora. It was also announced earlier this summer that “Next Generation” alum Brent Spiner (Data) and “Star Trek: Voyager’s” Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) would reprise their roles alongside franchise veterans Jonathan Del Arco (Hugh the Borg), Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi).
The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Stewart, Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers and Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serves as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper directed the first two episodes of the series.
