‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 4 Trailer: Burnham Takes the Captain’s Chair and Takes on a Risky Mission (Video)

“Star Trek: Discovery” got a Season 4 trailer and premiere date on Saturday. The new footage debuted as part of the “Star Trek” panel during New York Comic Con.

The special effects-heavy trailer picks up right off where Season 3 ended, with Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) taking command of the U.S.S. Discovery (wearing a spiffy new 33rd century Starfleet uniform).

“Today we seek to understand a threat none our galaxy has faced before,” Burnham tells the crew.

“What exactly is this anomaly?” Fleet Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) asks.

“We’re not sure,” Lt. Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) replies.

Indeed, little is known about the “threat” Discovery and the galaxy faces. Seasons 1 and 2 saw physical threats (Klingons and the rogue A.I. system Control), and Season 3 dealt with the phenomenon “The Burn” which prevented warp travel.

The official description for the upcoming season reads: “Season 4 of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all.”

At least one mystery is cleared up by the trailer: former captain Saru (Doug Jones) rejoins the crew of the Discovery on its new mission. It was unclear what his future was at the end of Season 3, when he went on sabbatical back to his homeworld Kaminar to mentor the childlike Su’Kal (Bill Irwin).

Other returning castmembers are Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, David Ajala, Blu del Barrio, Ian Alexander and David Cronenberg.

Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth are executive producers. Paradise serves as the series’ showrunner.
