‘Star Trek: Discovery': Alex Kurtzman Takes Over After Showrunners Exit CBS All Access Series
“Star Trek: Discovery” has yet another captain at the helm. Alex Kurtzman has been named showrunner on the CBS All Access series, taking over for Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, who stepped down on Thursday.
“We’ve made some producer changes at ‘Star Trek: Discovery.’ The series continues under the creative vision and leadership of executive producer and co-creator Alex Kurtzman,” said CBS Television Studios in a statement to TheWrap. “‘Discovery’ remains on course for season two in 2019 with new and continuing stories that build on its successful premiere season.”
This marks the second showrunner change for Discovery” since CBS first announced the show in 2015. Harberts and Berg replaced original showrunner Bryan Fuller in 2016 as the show experienced extensive delays in getting to air.

Along with being an executive producer on “Discovery,” Kurtzman co-wrote the two J.J. Abrams-directed feature films in the franchise: 2009’s “Star Trek” and 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness.” Kurtzman also directed 2017’s “The Mummy.”
The second season of “Star Trek: Discovery” is slated to debut in 2019, with Antson Mount joining the cast as as Captain Christopher Pike.
