The star-studded first trailer for the Harriet Tubman biopic 'Harriet' is here: Watch now

The first trailer for a new movie based on the life of American abolitionist Harriet Tubman was released Tuesday.

"Harriet" tells the extraordinary tale of Tubman's daring escape from slavery and missions to liberate slaves through the Underground Railroad.

"Harriet" features Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman, starring alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles and Clarke Peters. It comes to theaters Nov. 1.

Tubman was born on a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland, in 1820. Following her escape, she became one of the leading conductors of the Underground Railroad.

Estimates say she led 300 slaves to freedom, though Tubman herself said the numbers were lower. It's believed she freed at least 70, never losing track of a single one, according to History.com.
