GG Jackson decommits from North Carolina basketball and could land at South Carolina

Columbia native and Ridge View senior Gregory "GG" Jackson has officially decommited from North Carolina men's basketball, and multiple reports state he is expected to play for South Carolina.

At 6-foot-9 and 210 pounds, Jackson is ranked as the No. 1 power forward and No. 2 overall prospect for the Class of 2023 behind Camden, New Jersey, guard D.J. Wagner in the 247Sports Composite.

247Sports said Jackson is expected to reclassify to the current recruiting cycle and has the necessary credits to enroll in college as a member of the 2022 class. If he signs with USC, it would be a huge addition for first-year coach Lamont Paris, who was announced as Frank Martin's replacement on March 22.

Forward GG Jackson, the No. 2 prospect for 2023, has decommitted from North Carolina and is expected to sign with South Carolina.

"First I would like to thank God for watching over me and giving me the gift and talent to play basketball, Jackson posted on Twitter and Instagram. "To all of my coaches from middle school on up and AAU coaches, thanks for believing in me and letting me play for your programs. Thank you to coach Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball staff for recruiting me and giving me a chance to play for your university.

"My family has stuck by my side since I was born and have been the biggest supporters in my life by guiding me in the right direction. I have decided to decommit from UNC to explore other options that can help me grow from a teenage boy to an adult and to put me in the best position to reach my dream goal which is the NBA."

"There's only a few (players) I feel like have that opportunity to stay home and kind of be that guy that uplifts their hometown, or whatever," Jackson told the Greenville News after a Feb. 28 win over Mauldin. "It's definitely an honor."
