Stallone Reigns in His Final ‘Expendables’ Outing as September’s Most Anticipated Movie | Chart

Lionsgate will soon figure out if it can live without Barney Ross.

Sylvester Stallone’s run in the “Expendables” franchise comes to an end with the release of “Expend4bles” on Sept. 22 in the U.S. The film took the top spot on Whip Media’s Movie Anticipation Report for the month, based on viewing intent data from TV Time, Whip Media’s TV and movie tracking app with more than 26 million global registered users.

Joining Stallone and Statham in the ensemble cast are Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Andy Garcia.

And as spooky season sets in, horror fans won’t have to wait too long for some shrieks and shrills. Trailing the top spot at No. 2 is “The Nun II, a sequel to the 2018 Warner Bros. film set in the Conjuring Universe.

Disney’s “A Haunting in Venice,” the sequel to “Death on the Nile” based on Agatha Christie’s novel “Hallowe’en Party,” sits in fourth place. It brings back Kenneth Branagh as detective Hercule Poirot, and he’s joined by Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan and Michelle Yeoh.

And it’s a big month for Lionsgate with “Saw X,” coming Sept. 29, in sixth place. Taking place in Mexico City, the events of the tenth movie are set between those of “Saw” and “Saw II.”

Rounding out the top three is Denzel Washington’s reprise role in Sony Pictures’ “Equalizer 3,” out just in time for Labor Day weekend.

The actor’s son, John David Washington, also makes an appearance on the chart as the hero of the upcoming sci-fi thriller “The Creator.” The film, out Sept. 29, follows Washington’s journey to save mankind against advanced AI.

The fifth movie in the “After” series, “After Everything,” comes out Sept. 13 from Voltage Pictures and Netflix, which picked up the streaming rights. Based on Anna Todd’s romance novel of the same name.

“Love at First Sight,” based on the novel “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight” by Jennifer E. Smith, streams on Netflix two days later.

Another book adaptation, “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” follows the friendship of two Mexican-American teenage boys in El Paso, Texas. The Blue Fox coming-of-age story, produced by big names including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Kyra Sedgwick, ranks no. 8.

And the third installment of the beloved “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” franchise hits theaters next weekend. In the Focus Features film, writer, director and star Nia Vardalos takes the Portokalos family to Greece for a memorable reunion.
