Squid Share New Song “Match Bet”: Listen

Squid are the Brighton band of Ollie Judge (Drums & Lead Vocals), Louis Borlase (Guitars & Vocals), Arthur Leadbetter (Keyboards, Strings), Laurie Nankivell (Bass & Brass), and Anton Pearson (Guitars & Vocals). On September 6, they’ll digitally release their new Town Centre EP via Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground label.

Town Centre was led by “The Cleaner.” Now, Squid have shared the second single, “Match Bet.” Hear it below (via Stereogum).

Ollie Judge said in a statement:

“Match Bet” revolves around a character that lives within the same universe as “The Cleaner.” The song is told from the perspective of a Sonic Youth super fan living with mental illness, whom was a regular at a shop I used to work in. His harmless demeanour and manic, long conversations about gambling, his relationship with Her Majesty The Queen and love for Sonic Youth was extremely helpful for me in that period of my life. I found it interesting how his manic-ness opened me up a bit in a time where I could have quite easily just blended into the paintwork and kept quiet.

Squid are performing at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival Paris, which takes place from October 31 to November 2 at la Grande Halle de la Villette. Tickets are available now.
