Sputnikfest and more can't-miss events happening in Manitowoc this week

1. Get wacky at Sputnikfest

Manitowoc’s craziest festival is back!

Full of alien and artsy fun, Sputnikfest lands in Manitowoc Sept. 9 right outside the Rahr-West Art Museum, 610 N. Eighth St., with food trucks, live music, Deep Space Cedar Crest Ice Cream, kids’ activities, a 5K run/walk and impressive costume contests that will make you say “wow!” This year, all contest entries get to walk the sparkly green carpet to their spot on stage.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. with the annual alien raffle drop. See the full schedule at https://www.manitowoc.org/1109/Sputnikfest.

2. Watch 'Gone with the Wind' at the Capitol Civic Centre

Spend a date night watching a classic movie at a classic theater: the Capitol Civic Centre, 913 S. Eighth St.

Over the next three Tuesdays, there will be classic movie showings at both 2 and 7 p.m. "Gone with the Wind" will kick off the series, playing Sept. 12.

3. Wear green and gold to the SuperFans Party

Kick off the Packers’ season with Sabbatical Brewing’s SuperFans Release Party.

Sept. 9, the night before the season-opener, head to Sabbatical Brewing, 835 S. 29th St., from 4 to 10 p.m. for food from No Pork on Your Fork, new brew release of SuperFans, live music and comradery with other fans.

4. Discover our history at Mid-Lakes Thresheree

Immerse yourself in the culture and learn the techniques from Wisconsin’s agricultural past at Mid-Lakes Thresheree!

Taking place at Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road, Manitowoc, you can interact with vintage tractors, hands-on demonstrations and 25 different historic buildings.

There’s plenty of activities and wonders to discover over this weekend’s event, held both Sept. 9 and 10. Learn more at manitowoccountyhistory.org.

5. Enjoy tea at the Toll House

An infrequent occurrence, the Toll House Bed and Breakfast is open to visitors without a reservation to take a look around inside the beautiful Victorian home.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both Sept. 8 and 9, step inside for tea, the history of the house, and an inside look at the rooms of the historic house.
