Sprinkle This! Hornell bakery cooking up new name, location. What to know about changes

Stone Cottage Cakery by Danielle in Hornell is on the move.

The popular McLean Avenue bakery that fills custom orders for cakes, cupcakes, cookies and brownies, provides a grab and go selection of goodies, and supplies products wholesale at several regional stores will open on Oct. 4 at a new location — 50 Park Drive in the former Triple C’s Tasty Freeze.

And there will be an exciting new name for the business: Sprinkle This Cakery.

“It's super fun, and it’s mine," said Danielle Blankenship, a Bath native who acquired the former Stone Cottage Cakery last December from its previous owner, Deb Rose, who ran it for 15 years.

After getting the business, Blankenship changed the name to Stone Cottage Cakery by Danielle.

Vintage baked goods and anything involving the Buffalo Bills are trending items that customers are placing orders for, according to Danielle Blankenship, who will open Sprinkle This Cakery on Oct. 4 at the former Triple C's on Park Drive in Hornell.

The last day on McLean Avenue will be Sept. 30. This second restart ushers in new branding in a building that is larger and more conducive to the bakery's growing wholesale arm.

Blankenship noted the building has been renovated.

“It’s completely different," Blankenship said. "One thing that I would like to say: Even though it’s not small and cottage like, it’s still going to be cute. What’s nice about it is it’s my kind of cute. I get to put my touch on it. With the move, it is my business. I can do what I want.”

While Stone Cottage Cakery by Danielle accepts only cash and checks, Sprinkle This Cakery will also take payments by credit and debit cards, an upgrade Blankenship is enthusiastic about.

'I genuinely love to bake'

Danielle Blankenship, left, is excited about the move to 50 Park Drive in Hornell and the upcoming Oct. 4 opening of Sprinkle This Cakery. The bakery features custom cakes, cupcakes and more. Tiffany Blankenship, Danielle's sister, helps display the new sign for the business.

Blankenship said baking is in her "blood line."

She said, “I genuinely love to bake. A lot of people ask, ‘How do you do that day in and day out?’

“My passion came from my family. I grew up and my grandma Sharon was a baker. She would bake cookies at Christmas time and all the grandkids would be there. She still makes cookies and gives the families plates of cookies.”

Sharon also spent years with the Betty-K Bake Shop in Bath, working the front counter and serving as "the face" of the bakery for more than two decades, Blankenship said.

Another grandmother was a member of a family full of cake decorators.

Before coming to Hornell and launching Stone Cottage Cakery by Danielle, Blankenship was with Tops Friendly Markets, first at the Bath store as a cake decorator for about 12 months and then five years at the Tops in Canandaigua as the head cake decorator.

She thought she had settled into her dream job as cake technician subcontractor for Tops, training new decorators and helping where needed at special store events and other occasions. She loved the job and was not looking to leave, but the Stone Cottage opportunity opened up.

"A couple people said, 'Danielle, this is what’s happening over in Hornell. They are looking for somebody. That’s for you,'" she recalled.

Same faces, same products at the new place

While the bakery's location is changing, customers will see the same faces they have come to know and a product line that has proved popular.

Custom orders may be placed in person at the store, by calling the bakery at 607-385-3090 or sending Blankenship a Facebook message.

"Right now we are looking at one to two weeks in advance for any custom order," Blankenship said.

The store's days and hours at 50 Park Drive will be Wednesday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.); Thursday (8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.); Friday (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.); and Saturday (9-11 a.m.).

A key feature is the grab and go case where customers can pick up a treat "if you forgot it's somebody's birthday" or just need a quick item, Blankenship said.

Sprinkle This Cakery also will also have daily fresh breads from The Bakery at M&L Cakes and Catering in Wayland and small gift-giving trinkets crafted by local artisans.

Friday is Doughnut Day. North Hornell's Dukes of Dough doughnuts will be available at Sprinkle This Cakery every Friday.

Some sit down seating will be available and outdoor seating is being considered for the future.

Where to find cupcakes, cookies and more around region

Blankenship said the new building provides Sprinkle This with the opportunity to expand its wholesale output, but its cakes, cupcakes and cookie favorites are already available at the Shurfine stores in Arkport and Canisteo, Brandy’s Cup of Joe in Hornell, The Brick House on Main in Canisteo, Moonie’s Two Scoops in Leicester, Three Wishes Café in Bath and the Book Cellars in Wellsville.
