Spring concert coming up for the Wiregrass Community Band

Dothan, AL (WDHN) – The Wiregrass Community Band will take the stage soon for their spring concert that features several songs dedicated to a man with local roots. Sunday, April 28th at 3pm in the Covenant Methodist Church Sanctuary the band will perform a variety of marches and several compositions by the late Robert W. Smith. Smith played trumpet in the band at Daleville High School before attending Troy University and was on the staff there before his death in 2023. Smith composed and directed the Orlando Magic Drum and Bugle Corp. He also composed over 100 pieces of work for junior and high school bands.

The Wiregrass Community Band will play several of Smith’s work. The Concert April 28th will feature several guest conductors who were close friends of Robert Smith.

The Wiregrass Community band has been around since 1990, originally called the Troy-Dotha Community Band. The present-day rendition made up of volunteers from all over the Wiregrass. Be prepared for some great music April 28th, for their spring concert with more concerts planned later in the year.
