Spotify revealed its annual Wrapped campaign Wednesday, allowing users of the streaming service to see the songs, artists and podcasts they listened to the most in 2023.

The platform curates a playlist of listeners' most played songs, along with data showing how often they listened to certain artists and how that compares to the rest of the population. Users can share the outcome on social media, meaning others can compare and, depending on the results, judge what came up most frequently throughout the year.

Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift was the top artist in the world in 2023. The pop music megastar was followed in order by Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake and Peso Pluma.

All fine choices, sure, but we at NorthJersey.com couldn't help but notice the lack of local singers on the global list. That got us wondering: What would the state of New Jersey's Spotify Wrapped look like if it had its own account?

Did any NJ artists make it onto your Spotify Wrapped for 2023?

With that in mind, we came up with a non-scientific compilation of five artists that any true Garden State enthusiast should have in their regular music rotation.

  1. Bruce Springsteen: As if there could be any other choice for No. 1 on our list. "The Boss" had a relatively eventful year, embarking on a tour with his E Street Band before a bout with peptic ulcer disease in September forced its postponement until 2024. Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, also wrote an original song called "Addicted to Romance" for the 2023 film "She Came to Me" starring New Jersey's Peter Dinklage and Anne Hathaway.

  2. Bon Jovi: New Jersey's favorite 1980s rock band and its namesake, Jon Bon Jovi, got into the seasonal music business with the release of the holiday song "Christmas Isn't Christmas" earlier this month. Spotify users who don't enjoy Christmas music can always rely on classics like "Livin' on a Prayer" (1.4 billion streams) and "You Give Love a Bad Name" (971 million) for their fix of the group.

  3. My Chemical Romance: Pop-punk fans likely feel a wave of nostalgia whenever they listen to the Essex County-based band, who had major hits in the mid-2000s with songs like "Teenagers" and "Welcome to the Black Parade" before breaking up in 2013. The band announced a reunion tour in early 2020 that was delayed for two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, finally concluding in March of this year with shows in New Zealand, Australia and Japan. MCR was also announced as a headliner for the 2024 "When We Were Young" festival in Las Vegas.

  4. Jonas Brothers: The sibling trio is also enjoying renewed popularity following a 2013 breakup. Brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick have been performing again since 2019, when they released the single "Sucker," and their sixth studio album, simply titled "The Album," was released on May 12.

  5. SZA: The Maplewood native, whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe, spent much of 2023 on an arena tour in the United States and Europe to promote her second album, "SOS," released last year. Her latest single, "NO SZNS," is a collaboration with pop musician Jean Dawson and was released Sept. 22. She also cleaned up on Grammy nominations.
