Sports takes center court at 2024 Netflix Upfront

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — Sports took much of the spotlight during the 2024 Netflix Upfront event.

One of the biggest sports additions announced by Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria, was the live broadcasting of Christmas Day NFL games across the next three seasons. Since this is new for Netflix, no broadcast teams were announced just yet.

Also announced, was a new golf-centered comedy series named ‘Golf’, which will star Will Ferrell. The series will be led by executive producers Ramy Youseff and Rian Johnson. ‘Running Point’, which was announced alongside the comedy is another sports series that will have a big name behind it. It will star Kate Hudson as the new President of a fictional professional basketball team.

Happy Gilmore 2 officially announced by Netflix

Sandlerverse fans can also rejoice as ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ was officially announced during the 2024 Netflix Upfront event. Adam Sandler will indeed reprise one of his most famous roles as Happy Gilmore.

When it comes to sport documentaries, a documentary about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys reign in the 1990’s is scheduled to be released. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) also is getting into the streaming game with three separate sports documentaries. Maybe the most notable of the documentaries being ‘Simone Biles: Rising’ which will follow the gymnast’s historic comeback.

The two other IOC documentaries will follow 10 international men’s basketball teams as they compete for medals, with the other following daily life and training of multiple 100-meter sprinters.

So, while your favorite sport’s season may come to an end, Netflix is looking to have sports fans covered for the near future.
