After dozens of postponements caused by Tuesday's rain, the fall high school sports season kicked into gear on Wednesday.

Volleyball

HIGHLIGHTS: Case boys soccer came out moving the ball extremely well. At the end of the day, experience and size won the match. Case started the game with five freshmen. Both freshmen Logan Maconber and Owen Borges had a strong outing. Next game is Wednesday against Greater New Bedford Voke.

Field hockey

Goalie Anna Michaud had three saves for the shut-out. Overall team effort! Case plays Seekonk at home on Friday, Sept. 9.

HIGHLIGHTS: Somerset-Berkley played well in their first home match of the year. Brandon Silva was low medalist with a score of 42, followed by Dominic Alderman with a 44 and both Mason Sullivan and Alex Crook with a score of 46. Sophomore Alex Crook has played well in his first three varsity matches with a scoring average of 48.

Westport vs. Bourne

SCORE: Westport 310, Bourne 254

LOCATION: Brookside GC

HIGHLIGHTS: Low rounds were 47 by senior Avery Viveiros and 48 by sophomore Bryton Graham

HIGHLIGHTS: Junior Ryan Farrell was top scorer for the Cardinals. Sophomore Everett Rego and freshman Alex Reed were also among the top scorers for the Cardinals.

Cross country

HIGHLIGHTS: Diman senior captain Will Ferreira won the race in 19:17. In second place was Diman senior CJ Mendez at 20:44; third place was Diman sophomore Tanyon Reis at21:20; in fourth place and setting a new female Diman 5k course record was Durfee's Maggie O' Connell at 21:26; in fifth place was Diman sophomore Tristian Tavares at 21:46; in sixth place was Diman freshman McCaulay Crossman at 21:49; in seventh place was Diman senior Ethan Cabral at 22:57in eighth place was Durfee's Camryn Letendre at 24:00; ninth place was Diman freshman Eric Valcourt at 24:15; 10th place was Durfee's Brady Lavoie at 24:39; 11th place was Diman sophomore Nya Martinez at 24:33; 12th place was Diman junior Dominick Alves at 25:29.

Other top finishers for Durfee were Julia Rumsey, an eighth-grader, who finished with a time of 25:50. Joseph Silvia joined Brady Lavoie as one of the top two boy runners for Durfee.

Next up, Durfee will compete at the Martha’s Vineyard Invitational on Sept.10. On Sept, 10, Diman will take part in the MSTCA XC Relays at Highland Park, Attleboro.
