Spoon Teases Mysterious Artwork, Sparks New Album Speculation

By Sam Sodomsky.

Spoon have sparked speculation about a new album, updating their social media accounts and their website with a black-and-white image of a skull. The image has also been posted by Matador Records, who released the band’s early work. (Spoon’s most recent album was released on Loma Vista; prior to that they had been on Merge). Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for the band and Matador to comment.

While Spoon have been working on the follow-up to 2014’s They Want My Soul, they have made a few live appearances. They recently crashed (and performed at) a Spoon cover band’s show. They also debuted a new song in May, which appeared at the end of this week’s episode of “Shameless.” Watch the clip here. (Obviously, spoiler alert for “Shameless” fans.)
