Pull out the jar of fake spiders, box of stretchy cobwebs and pumpkin-carving tools because Halloween is almost here.

For some Springfield homeowners, a string of lights on the front porch just isn't enough to satisfy their love for the macabre. Rather, hours are spent inflating oversized ghosts and ghouls, arranging plastic skeletons into human-like poses and syncing spooky music with evening light shows.

If you're looking to take in some of Springfield's best Halloween decorations, the News-Leader has you covered. We've compiled a list of some of the city's most festive houses and are looking for more to add to the list.

Nixa homeowner Eric Delzell doesn't mess around with his Halloween decorations. His home has become popularly known as the Nixa Pumpkin Haunt and folks travel from all over to check out his display.

Though Delzell is celebrating his seventh year covering his front porches and lawn with pumpkins and skeleton, the Victorian-style home at 401 S. Main St. in Nixa is celebrating its 119th birthday this year.

Even in broad daylight, the large, inflatable Black Widow spider atop the home at 900 S. Pickwick Ave. may spook those with a distaste for eight-legged creatures.

It's hard to miss the splendor of Halloween decorations at the home of 1970 S. Kings Ave. A Grim Reaper band plays for passerby, a headless horseman appears to be taking off by the driveway and a large inflatable bird protects her nest of eggs near the sidewalk. If you want to get a good look, pull over and walk along the Kings Avenue sidewalk.

Not far from the Springfield Art Museum, skeletons of all shapes and sizes catch the eye of passerby at 1233 E. Linwood Drive. Colorful lights, inflatables and jack-o-lanterns are among the festive decorations.

Larger-than-life creatures, including skeletons and a winged, demon-like character, appear to be taking over the front lawn at 701 W. Bentwater Drive in Nixa.

Thorndale Drive in Nixa

The residents along Thorndale Drive in Nixa team up for the Halloween season with an array of scenes acted out by skeleton characters. Homeowner Bailey Pyle (924 E. Thorndale Drive) told the News-Leader that about 12 homeowners on the street participate in the skeleton festivities.
