Spike Lee: Donald Trump's push to close mosques 'like Hitler'

Spike Lee thinks some of Donald Trump’s recent rhetoric is similar to Nazism.

Lee made the comparisons in an interview with The Daily Beast when asked about Trump’s immigration policies.

“He wants to close down mosques now. That’s like the Nazis,” Lee said. “That’s like Hitler, Mussolini, the Axis Powers. You can’t do that!”

After the terrorist attacks in Paris on Nov. 13, Trump told MSNBC that the U.S. should “strongly consider” closing down mosques.

“Well, I would hate to do it but it’s something you’re going to have to strongly consider,” he said. “Some of the absolute hatred is coming from these areas… the hatred is incredible. It’s embedded. The hatred is beyond belief. The hatred is greater than anybody understands.”

During a later interview with Fox News, Trump reiterated his stance, and said the U.S. had “no choice.”

“Nobody wants to say this and nobody wants to shut down religious institutions or anything, but you know, you understand it,” Trump said. “A lot of people understand it. We’re going to have no choice.”
