'Spider-Man,' 'Jumanji' release dates shuffled

The new Spider-Man movie will be swinging into theaters a little earlier than expected.

Sony has announced that the upcoming Spider-Man will now be released on July 7, 2017. Director Jon Watts’ take on the iconic webslinger brings Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and before 19-year-old Tom Holland can headline his own standalone movie, he’ll first appear in Captain America: Civil War (out May 6, 2016).

Previously, the new Spider-Man was slated for release on July 28, 2017.

In Spider-Man’s place, Sony will release its new Jumanji reboot, which was originally scheduled for Christmas 2016.

Last week, Bad Teacher director Jake Kasdan —who is also the son of Empire Strikes Back/Raiders of the Lost Ark screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan — was tapped to helm the upcoming fantasy adventure. Kasdan’s new version is based on Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved children’s book, which first hit the big screen in 1995 with Robin Williams.
