Tom Holland’s Peter Parker isn’t the only Spider-Man to tamper with the multi-verse. Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales was doing it in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and come 2 June he’ll be doing it again.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will see Morales’ web-head venture deep into another animated trip across the multi-verse in a story that’s so big, it needs to be split into two parts.

Following the events of his previous (and critically acclaimed) adventure that saw him team up with a gang of parallel universe Spider-Men/Women in order to bring down a web of villains controlled by Kingpin, Morales is pulled into the multi-verse once more by his Spidey-friend Gwen Stacey, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld.

This two-part adventure promises more of the mind-melting action and glorious blend of eclectic animation styles that not only gave its live-action MCU counterpart a run for its money but bagged an Oscar gold for 2019’s Best Animated Feature.

What is the plot of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

Set shortly after the events of the first movie, Morales finds himself approached by Stacy AKA multi-verse Spider-Woman who enlists his help with a perilous mission that could help to save every Spider-Man in every universe.

With a shady new villain on the loose with powers that threaten multiple realities, Morales and Stacy join forces with a supergroup of Spider-Man protectors made up of web-slingers from different universes.

Together, they devise a plan to help bring down their mysterious new foe but when Morales finds himself at odds with their leader’s grand plan, saving the day becomes infinitely trickier.

This time, directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson take over from part one’s Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, working from a script penned by The Lego Movie Phil Lord and Chris Miller, alongside Wonder Woman 1984 scribe David Callaham.

As it stands, little is currently known about the plot of trilogy-closer Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse besides a tentative release date of Friday, 29 March 2024.

What is the voice cast for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

Leading the voice cast for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is Shameik Moore who once again stars as Miles Morales / Spider-Man and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacey / Spider-Woman.

Morales' mentor Peter B. Parker, voiced by Jake Johnson, also returns, alongside Brian Tyree Henry as Morales’ father and The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone who voiced Norman Osborne and the Green Goblin in part one but here brings Vulture to life.

Newcomers to the Spider-Verse include Jason Schwartzman as the movie’s evil threat, The Spot, a baddie whose body is made up of portals that allow him to skip between different universes.

Issa Rae plays pregnant Spider-Society member Jessica Drew, with Daniel Kaluuya playing Brit-rock-inspired Spider-Punk / Hobart "Hobie" Brown, Deadpool’s Karan Soni as Indian Spider-Man Pavitr Prabhakar and Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara, a Spider-Man from the year 2099 whose plans to stop The Spot clash with Morales morals.

Rounding out the cast are Luna Lauren Vélez as Morales’ mother, former Saturday Night Live cast member ​​Rachel Dratch and Shea Whigham as Stacy’s father.

It is believed that a host of additional Spider-People will also make an appearance, each harking back to beloved interactions of the character from the comic books, animated series and more.

As such, expect to see the likes of Scarlet-Spider and the Japanese Spider-Man Takuya Yamashiro, alongside versions of the red and blue hero from the popular animated series Spider-Man Unlimited and The Spectacular Spider-Man in O’Hara’s Spider-Society.

How have people reacted to Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

First reactions for the new Spider-Verse film arrived on Thursday, 25 May following a preview screening in Los Angeles, and the film received rave reviews with some calling it the "greatest animated film of all time" and heaping praise on the team behind the production.

Actor Ben Schwartz shared on Twitter: "This movie. This beautiful, brilliant, inspiring movie. #AcrossTheSpiderverse is a work of art. Every single frame is so jaw droppingly beautiful, you almost can’t believe they pulled it off.

"The heart. The comedy. The action. The easter eggs. The music. The representation. THE SPIDERPEOPLE! I cannot wait to get back in a theatre and run it back. Thank you @chrizmillr @philiplord @shinypinkbottle @Powerkeni @JDS_247 Dave Callahan AND THESE INCREDIBLE ANIMATORS. I am in awe."

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who is a staunch supporter of animation, retweeted several of the first reactions, and simply said: "SPIDER-VERSE will fufill and heal."

Another viewer said of the film: "#SpiderVerse is undoubtedly the greatest animated film to ever grace the big screen. A celebration of Spider-Man and a MAGNUM OPUS OF ART & STYLE, #SPIDERMAN HAS NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD! Fantastic story, incredible action, and boy does this Spider-Fly! ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!"

Another viewer said the sequel was better than the first, writing: "#SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse delivers in every way possible. It's incredible from start to finish. Is there a trailer for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

There is. An expanded full trailer for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse dropped in early April in all its colour-spewing glory. The trailer quickly became Sony Pictures UK biggest ever trailer launch, amassing 32.7 million views across Sony Pictures & partner’s UK platforms.

In it, we find Morales in a classic Spider-Man scrape: juggling a healthy school life with saving the world. Scratch that — every world. No biggie.
