‘Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge’ Sneak Peek: ‘They’re Dirty, They Have to Work Together’

There’s no “me” in Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge — only “we.”

The brutal endurance show returns for a second season Monday, but the competing teams will face a brand-new, punishing obstacle course, as host Apolo Ohno previews in this exclusive first look clip.

“Every single obstacle and challenge has been meticulously deconstructed and put back together to make it more difficult and more challenging,” the Olympian says, “and that’s why they need five people to go through the course.” There’s no going it alone here — “you have to work with a team,” a member of Team Heart of Texas notes.

In the course, which is located where The Walking Dead filmed the Terminus storyline, teams will have to climb ropes, scale walls, pull heavy objects, and trudge through mud. And the competitors have to overcome their personal obstacles, including missing limbs. NBC and Telemundo sports reporter MJ Acosta says, “It’s people helping each other out when they don’t think they can do these things.”

Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge Season 2 premieres Monday at 10 p.m. on NBC.
