Space Drama ‘The Expanse’ Acquired By Netflix For Global Distribution
Netflix has acquired Syfy space drama The Expanse as an original series internationally. Season 1 will be available to stream for Netflix members outside of North America and New Zealand beginning November 3, with Season 2 slated for 2017. Legendary Global TV Distribution acquired the international distribution rights to the series from Alcon TV Group in 2014. It premiered on Syfy in the U.S. in summer 2015, and Season 2 is set for premiere in 2017.
The 10-episode epic space drama, developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby based on the international best-selling book series, is set 200 years in the future, after mankind has colonized the solar system. It follows a hardened detective (Thomas Jane) and a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait) who come together for what starts as the case of a missing young woman and evolves into a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.
Shohreh Aghdashloo also stars as Chrisjen Avasarala, a member of a political family dynasty. Other series regulars include Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Florence Faivre. Jonathan Banks, Paulo Costanzo and Jay Hernandez appear as guest stars throughout the series’ first season.
The series is executive produced by Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, Sharon Hall, Naren Shankar, Sean Daniel and Jason Brown as well as Fergus and Ostby.
