SOUTH BEND — “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” opens Sept. 8 and continues through Sept. 17 at South Bend CivicTheatre, 403 N. Main St.

Written by Jamie Wooten, Jessie Jones and Nicholas Hope, the comedy follows the close friendships of five Southern women who met as teammates on their college’s swim team over the span of 33 years.

As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and repartee, to get through the challenges that life flings at them.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8-9 and 14-16 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 10 and 17.

Tickets are $35-$27.

Civic also presents a staged reading of Wooten, Jones and Hope’s “Savannah Sipping Society” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the theater.

The comedy chronicles the new friendships four unique Southern women make with each other over the course of six months. They all need to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines and are drawn together by Fate — and an impromptu happy hour — as they decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years.

Tickets are $10.
