Southaven residents raise concerns after Springfest concert

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Loud music blasting across Southaven last night had some people concerned during a concert that was part of the city’s Springfest celebration.

The sold-out concert by artist Hozier led to noise complaints as thousands of seats were filled at the BankPlus Amphitheater on Thursday night.

Darryl Jeans says though he didn’t make it inside the 7 p.m. concert, he heard the music inside his home, which was miles away.

“I was able to hear the music. I live about 5 miles from the theatre,” Jeans said.

Social media posts also show that others didn’t know about the concert and say the music was so loud they heard it over their TVs, even after 10 p.m. on a school night.

In a statement to WREG Southaven police say, “The Hozier concert was a sold-out show that was an absolutely successful event coinciding with the City of Southaven’s 44th anniversary Springfest celebration and the State of Mississippi Barbecue Championship sanctioned by the Mississippi Barbecue Network.“

WREG has asked Southaven police how many noise complaints they received due to the concert, but haven’t heard back.
