Southampton players donate wages to help 'put things right' after historic 9-0 home defeat
Southampton was on the wrong end of Premier League history last week, suffering a 9-0 loss to Leicester City at home on Friday. It is tied for the largest margin of victory in league history, and is the largest loss by a home team.
To “put things right for the club’s supporters” after such a shellacking, the players and coaches announced Monday they would donate their wages from Friday to Saints Foundation.
“The players and staff are now directing all their energy and focus towards the two games in Manchester this week,” the statement ended.

The Saints Foundation is the club’s charity and uses the “power and passion of the club to transform lives in and around Southampton, helping people fulfill their potential to be more involved, healthier and empowered members of the community.” Per the club, it has helped more than 12,000 people while investing more than $2 million in charitable activities.
