A new driver's license express station has opened in Sioux Falls to give drivers another option for renewing their license.

The station is located in the Kings Crossing building at 6010 S. Minnesota Ave., Suite 101 on the corner of 69th and Minnesota.

The new express station is the first of its kind in the state, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Tony Mangan.

It's designed to make it easier for people to renew their driver's license or identification cards that don't require testing such as renewals, out-of-state transfers, students who have completed their driver's education within the last year, and new and renewal identification cards.

Mangan said the hope for the new station is to reduce the wait times for many of those needing driver's license services.

"This is all about good customer service ... The bottom line is that this is about helping people in several different ways take care of their driver's license and identification card needs," driver licensing assistant director Jeannelle Yitagesu said.

In Sioux Falls, there is a Driver License Exam Station at the corner of Russell and Kiwanis at 2501 W. Russell Street. That location is equipped for testing.

The new express station will be open Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. Customers can pay via cash, check or credit card with service fees applied.

"This idea was brought to the Governor and Legislature last year and with their approval, we were able to move forward," Yitagesu said.
