This South Carolina city ranks among the trendiest Labor Day destinations. Here’s why

South Carolina is home to one of the nation’s trendiest travel destinations for Labor Day, a new report finds.

North Charleston ranks No. 10 on a list of places people can’t wait to visit over the holiday weekend, according to findings published Tuesday, Aug. 16.

To create the list, the vacation rental website Airbnb considered the cities where people were reserving trips the most. It then analyzed places with the highest volumes of nights already booked for Sept. 2 to 5.

The results come after Airbnb saw last year’s busiest day for check-ins around Labor Day. This year, more travelers are expected to go solo, “with single trip bookings for the holiday weekend increasing by more than 20 percent compared to 2021,” according to the rental company.

So what could be attracting people to North Charleston? Though Airbnb doesn’t say in its report, the city of about 117,000 residents made a name for itself in a recent ranking.

In January, two North Charleston restaurants were the only South Carolina eateries to land on Yelp’s list of top U.S. dining destinations.

Nearby, Charleston also has been recognized as a desirable place to visit.

This year, the historic city was honored as an up-and-coming U.S. travel spot. It also was named among the best places for food lovers and people wanting staycations, McClatchy News reported.

This time around, the highest-ranking spot on Airbnb’s list went to Columbus, Ohio. Rounding out the top 10 most popular destinations:
