Sources: No. 3 player in 2020 high school basketball class pushes back commitment date

LOS ANGELES — Prolific Prep (Napa, California) standout Jalen Green, the third-ranked player in the 2020 high school basketball class, is pushing back his commitment date and will make his college decision at the end of his senior season, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Green, a 6-foot-5 athletic guard who is a native of Fresno, California, originally announced he would pick his college destination on Christmas Day.

Green, 17, is now electing to finish the upcoming season to see which colleges some of his peers commit to. He also wants to further study the playing styles of his top choices and monitor which college players declare early for the 2020 NBA draft before deciding his collegiate destination, sources said.

The five-star recruit who is projected by some to be the third overall pick of the 2021 NBA draft will take his final official visit to Fresno State this weekend, sources told Yahoo Sports.

"It's up to me at the end of the day. Not necessarily what everyone else wants,” Green told Yahoo Sports’ Krysten Peek last month. “When you're a top kid, people expect you to go to a blue blood [program], but for me it's what's best for me and my family. And why not be different? That's kind of my thing with the whole unicorn thing, so why not pick schools that no one's really looking at or thinking about going to?"

Green has visited to Auburn, Memphis, Oregon and USC.

He played his first three seasons at San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno before transferring to Prolific Prep, where he’ll play alongside fellow five-star recruit Nimari Burnett.

Green played for Team WhyNot on Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League this past summer and averaged 18.2 points per game.
