Sources: Fred VanVleet agrees to 2-year, $18M deal to return to Raptors

Restricted free-agent guard Fred VanVleet has agreed to a two-year, $18 million contract to re-sign with the Toronto Raptors, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

VanVleet and his agent, Brian Jungreis, met with Raptors front-office officials on Sunday morning in Chicago and finalized an agreement, league sources said. VanVleet went undrafted in 2016, and the deal represents significant financial security.

A 6-foot point guard, VanVleet established himself as a critical rotation player for Toronto, providing another playmaker alongside All-Stars DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry. He was a finalist for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award last season, averaging 8.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. He played in 76 of 82 games, but dealt with a strained right shoulder in the playoffs.

VanVleet was a primary focus for Toronto in free agency.

VanVleet, 24, had a standout four-year career at Wichita State and helped the program to the Final Four in 2013.
