Sophie Turner hasn’t acted a whole lot since “Game of Thrones” ended in 2019. She was in a Quibi show called “Wilderness,” had a viral cameo in Netflix movie “Do Revenge,” and was part of the ensemble in the Max limited series “The Staircase.” But she hasn’t had a lead role in a prominent series of her own.

But that’s changing, as Turner has signed on to star in “Haven” (working title), a British crime thriller that’s coming to Prime Video.

More from GoldDerby

Turner will play Zara, an ordinary employee at a pension fund management company called Lochmill Capital, who is thrust into an extraordinary situation when a gang of thieves invade the office and force her and her friend Luke (Archie Madekwe, “Saltburn”) to transfer billions of pounds worth of pension funds. Meanwhile, DCI Rhys (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, “The Queen’s Gambit”), a recently relapsed gambling addict, has to stave off his own financial ruin while he investigates the complex, far-reaching heist.

“Haven” is created and written by S.A. Nikias, a crime novelist making his television debut. The first three episodes will be directed by three-time Emmy nominee Sam Miller (“I May Destroy You”), who also executive produces. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Drama Republic, the British company behind Amazon’s “The English” and Netflix’s “One Day.”

“When we asked first-time tv screenwriter Sotiris Nikias if he’d like to have a go at writing a thriller we were astonished by the results,” Drama Republic’s Rebecca de Souza and Greg Brenman said in a statement. “His rollercoasting, nail-biting and funny scripts have quite rightly attracted a tremendous cast and top-tier creative team. We couldn’t be more delighted.”

Turner was nominated for an Emmy in 2019 for her performance as Sansa Stark in the final season of “Game of Thrones.” She will next be seen in another British crime drama series, “Joan,” a based-on-a-true-story thriller in which she plays a 1980s jewel thief named Joan Hannington. It will air later this year on ITVX in Great Britain and The CW in America.
