Sophie Turner gave her first in-depth interview on her divorce from Joe Jonas to British Vogue. She touched on everything, from her decision to move back to the U.K. to her feelings about the media’s false portrayal of her as a party girl following Jonas filing for divorce. Turner also talked about Taylor Swift, who has a history with Jonas, and just how grateful she is for the singer and the help she offered her and her two daughters, Willa and Delphine.

Swift briefly dated Jonas, albeit back when she was 18 years old. Turner shared that she met Swift around a decade ago but wasn’t able to “cultivate the friendship” until after her breakup from their mutual ex, Jonas.

Turner reached out to Swift in September when she was in New York City, working through her child custody case with Jonas. She had no place to stay, so she contacted Swift to ask if she happened to know anyone renting, British Vogue revealed. Swift responded by offering Turner her place to stay in at no cost. Back in September, Us Weekly reported that the residence was an investment property in the city, with a source sharing that Swift was “letting Sophie stay there as long as she needs and is supporting her however she can.

Turner confirmed that generosity to British Vogue, telling them, “Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year. I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space. She really has a heart of gold.”

Turner praised all her friends for the way they helped her survive that period of her life. “I’ve always said that my girlfriends are the loves of my life,” she said. She added that “the support I had from the women in my life during that time was the most amazing thing to see. I felt so held and so protected.”
