Sophie Turner’s Post for Joe Jonas a Day Before Their Marriage-Ending Argument Had a Secret Double-Meaning

Now that we know that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s marriage came crumbling down after an argument on his 34th birthday, an Instagram post she shared a day earlier feels morbidly ironic.
In court documents filed by Turner — who is suing Jonas to return their two daughters to England, where she wants them to live — it was revealed that the former couple had an argument on August 15 and Jonas filed for divorce on September 5. Turner, 27, claims the “breakdown [of her four-year marriage] … happened very suddenly” and alleges that she learned of the divorce “through the media.”

However, on the surface the Game of Thrones star and her “Waffle House” singer husband seemed to be as solid as ever on August 14 and 15. One day before her then-husband’s birthday, Turner posted a series of photos on Instagram from her time attending one of his Jonas Brothers’ concerts.
In the first of the photos, Turner lovingly kisses Jonas’ hand backstage but the second of the photos is somewhat cryptic knowing what we now do. Turner snapped a photos of her stack of friendship bracelets.

The bracelets appear to contain several references to Jonas, including his name, and one notable bracelet that reads, “Mr. Perfectly Fine” — the title of a Taylor Swift breakup song believed to be about Jonas.
The song, which was originally written in 2008 but never released, appeared as a bonus “From the Vault” track on Swift’s rerecorded album Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in April 2021. Written in the year of Swift, 33, and Jonas’s brief relationship and breakup, fans (and Turner) widely assume the song is about the former Disney Channel star.
The lyrics for “Mr. Perfectly Fine” include Swift calling out an ex for acting superior after their split. “Hello Mr. ‘Perfectly fine’ / How’s your heart after breaking mine? / Mr. ‘Always at the right place at the right time,’ baby / Hello Mr. ‘Casually Cruel’ / Mr. ‘Everything revolves around you’ /I’ve been Miss ‘Misery’ since your goodbye / And you’re Mr. ‘Perfectly Fine,’” she sings.
Turner is a well-documented Swiftie and has been photographed hanging out “Blank Space” singer amid her divorce. Even in the height of her romance with Jonas, she had no problem poking fun at his romantic past with her favorite singer so we can probably assume the bracelet was a joke. However, given their marriage fell apart within 48 hours of this post, the bracelet certainly has a second-meaning now!
On Jonas’ birthday, Turner posted a cute mirror selfie of herself and her husband twinning in matching striped pajamas on her Instagram story. “Happy birthday handsome @joejonas,” she captioned the photo.
Though it’s unclear what the infamous birthday argument was about, Jonas’s representatives have hit back against Turner’s claims that she had no idea he was seeking a divorce after this spat.
“After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce,” his reps said in statement on September 21.
The statement continued: “Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK. The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens.”
The reps also claimed Turner and Jonas “had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids.” They state that the kids “have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.” However, Turner allegedly move forward with her filing in after this conversation.
