Sofía Vergara Stars As Colombian Queenpin In ‘Griselda’ Teaser

Netflix has released the first teaser for Griselda where Sofía Vergara stars as the Colombian queenpin. The limited series, set to premiere on the platform on Jan. 25, 2024, finds the actress channeling the notorious woman in the non-fiction-based drama.
The official synopsis describes the six-episode series is “inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.” Chronicling the 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, resulting in her nickname “The Godmother.”
Griselda was first announced by the streamer in November 2021.
The project was created by Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard, with Andrés Baiz directing all episodes. Escajeda and Miro serve as co-showrunners. Newman and Baiz executive produce, along with Miro, Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard. Vergara and Luis Balaguer with Latin World Entertainment also executive produce.
“Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion-dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male kingpins we know so much about,” shared Vergara in a statement. “We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric, Andrés, and Netflix to help us bring this story of her life to the screen.”
Newman added, “Griselda Blanco has long been a passion project for Sofía and we are grateful that she and her partners at LatinWe have chosen us to help her tell that story.”
Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martín Rodríguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez, and Vanessa Ferlito also star in Griselda. Watch the teaser above.
