Sophia Loren is a proud grandmother to Lucia, Leonardo, Vittorio and Beatrice

Sophia Loren is a doting grandmother.

The Two Women actress has four grandchildren between her sons: Carlo Ponti Jr. and Edoardo Ponti.

"I have two beautiful children and they gave me grandchildren, so I'm surrounded by great love every day," she told Financial Times in 2020.

She first became a grandmother in 2006 when her younger son Edoardo welcomed a daughter, Lucia, with his wife, actress Sasha Alexander. One year later, her second grandchild and first grandson, Vittorio, was born to Carlo and his wife, Andrea Meszaros Ponti.

Loren's third grandchild, Leonardo, was born to Edoardo and Sasha in 2010, followed by her fourth, Beatrice, whom Carlo and Andrea welcomed in 2012.

All of her grandkids were born in Geneva, where she lives, and they have a close relationship with Loren, supporting her endeavors — including her restaurant openings — and attending awards shows with her.

"I live for my family," Loren told Al Roker on Today in 2016. "I have the most beautiful grandchildren that I've ever seen in my life."

Lucia Sofia Ponti, 17

Edoardo and Sasha welcomed their first child, Lucia Sofia Ponti, on May 12, 2006. Lucia became Loren’s first grandchild and namesake. The couple honored the Academy Award-winning actress by choosing her birth name, “Sofia,” as their daughter’s middle name.

While Sasha was pregnant with Lucia, Edoardo wrote a collection of poems for his soon-to-be-daughter, which he published in a 2018 book titled Letters from a Young Father.

"All these letter poems were addressed to my daughter, almost like a blueprint on how to live, how to love, how to remember," he told Milwaukee's 89.7 FM in June 2018.

While Lucia has grown up mainly out of the spotlight, her parents frequently post photos and videos of her. Sasha shared a clip on Instagram of the pair attending Taylor Swift's Inglewood show as part of her Eras Tour, where the mother-daughter duo showed off their dance skills — something Lucia is passionate about. She has been dancing competitively for several years, taking after her mom’s love of the art.

Grey’s Anatomy alum Jessica Capshaw also joined them at the concert, as she is Sasha’s good friend and Lucia’s godmother.

Vittorio Leone Ponti, 16

Carlo Jr. and his wife Andrea welcomed their first child, a son named Vittorio Leone Ponti, on April 2, 2007. He is Loren's second grandchild and first grandson.

Vittorio was born into a musical family: his father is a renowned conductor, and his mother is a classically trained violinist. He followed in his parents’ footsteps as a young boy, picking up piano at just 6 years old, according to the Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, an organization founded by Carlo Jr. in 2013.

Vittorio has garnered several awards for his piano abilities, including the division’s first prize at the 2019 Southern California Junior Bach Festival Complete Works Audition Competition, and he was one of the top finalists at the 2023 International School of Geneva’s Instrumental Music Competition.

He will make his orchestral debut as a piano soloist at the Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra in January 2024.

Leonardo Fortunato Ponti, 12

Edoardo and Sasha celebrated the arrival of their second child, Leonardo Fortunato Ponti, on Dec. 20, 2010.

"We are so thrilled to welcome our little Leonardo," the couple said in a statement to PEOPLE. "He's a wonderful gift and we are all in love — especially the grandmas!"

Sasha previously opened up to PEOPLE about the dynamic between Leonardo and his sister Lucia.

“It’s really fun to watch the kids interact and fight and just provoke each other,” the Rizzoli & Isles star said. “There’s a whole dynamic there that I’m sort of glad I didn’t have — but it’s really fun to watch as a parent!”

While Leonardo stays out of the public eye, his mother has shared a few snapshots of him over the years. For Father's Day in 2020, Sasha posted a photo of Leonardo and Lucia posing with their dad. "We are so lucky to have our Edoardo who wakes up with the glass half full every day," she wrote.

Leonardo has also shown off his dance moves on Instagram. In a video shared by Sasha in January 2021, the mother-son duo could be seen dancing around their house to Kanye West's "Gold Digger." He was also seen busting a move while in the car with his father in a birthday tribute Sasha posted for Edoardo in January 2023.

Beatrice Lara Ponti, 11

On March 15, 2012, Carlo Jr. and Andrea welcomed their second child, a daughter named Beatrice Lara Ponti.

While her parents are private about her upbringing, she has attended numerous events with her famous grandmother over the years. Beatrice stole the show at only 4 years old when she asked Loren if she could carry her bag at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show as they walked to their seats, and her grandmother happily obliged.

She also supported her grandmother during the inauguration of the Sophia Loren Restaurant in Milan in 2022, where the pair were seen sitting in a booth sharing a sweet moment.

“Still under the spell of the symphony of amazing Italian flavors at the opening of the @sophialorenrestaurant in Milan, Italy!!! 🎶🍕🍝🇮🇹❤️,” Carlo Jr. captioned a family photo from the event on Instagram.
