Sony Pictures will conduct a live orchestra at the Academy Museum featuring the bombastic music from its animated feature (and best picture) contender “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”

At a special invitation-only event at the David Geffen Theater, the studio will feature an exhilarating arrangement of electronics, turntables and a live orchestra performing the original score from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation’s box office smash by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning composer Daniel Pemberton. The concert will feature appearances by Oscar-winning producers and screenwriters Phil Lord and Chris Miller; the film’s directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson; producers Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Christina Steinberg; and screenwriter Dave Callaham.

In addition, executive producer and Grammy Award-nominated artist Metro Boomin, behind the acclaimed soundtrack “Metro Boomin Presents Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Soundtrack From and Inspired by the Motion Picture” and was recently named producer of the year for Variety’s Hitmakers, will also appear.

“Metro’s songs and Daniel’s score create a groundbreaking and vital aural portrait of Miles Morales’ world,” said Lord and Miller. “Daniel is a relentlessly inventive composer who circuit bends new instruments for new worlds — creating five unique musical approaches for each universe that he wove into a unified symphony. Metro’s standout songwriting and production aims not just to be authentic but to elevate the struggles of Miles and his family to something lyrical and lovely. Ultimately, what makes Daniel and Metro’s music so memorable is its emotional intimacy. It draws us into the story. It falls in love, it says goodbye, it stands and fights. We love it because it loves us back.”

“Across the Spider-Verse” received critical acclaim after opening in June, grossing $381 million domestically, the third-highest grossing of 2023. It tells the story of Miles Morales, Marvel’s first Afro-Latino Spider-Man, who is catapulted across the Multiverse in an attempt to prove himself as a capable hero. The film features an all-star cast, including Shameik Moore (Miles), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen), Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker), Jason Schwartzman (Spot) and Oscar Isaac (Miguel O’Hara).

The film is streaming on Netflix and is available on the Academy Screening Room and BAFTA viewing portal.
