Sony Lands Alexandra Monir Novel ‘The Final Six’ Based On Partial Manuscript
The Final Six, by Alexandra Monir, has been acquired by Sony in a pre-emptive deal. The studio bought it on a partial novel, with only a few chapters available to read. Deal was done before a publishing pact was put in place. Fueled by this pact, that book rights auction is now imminent.
The story imagines a present-day world under a first-of-its-kind coalition between the United Nations and the international space agencies, with a plot to send a team of six intrepid teenagers to create the first human settlement on Jupiter’s moon Europa. The high-concept hook touches on aspirational and relevant themes of environmentalism, global unity and leadership. It has that big-scale tentpole potential we saw yesterday when Fox acquired Irredeemable, which introduces a new universe of superheroes, for Tommy Wirkola to write and Adam McKay to direct.
Josh Bratman at Immersive Pictures is attached to produce The Final Six. Bratman currently has several films in development with the studio including medal of honor recipient Clinton Romesha’s memoir Red Platoon, which Dutton published this week to rave reviews; and, with producer Elizabeth Cantillon for TriStar, Melanie Raabe’s thriller The Trap, which is being adapted by Carol writer Phyllis Nagy. Lauren Abrahams will oversee for the studio.
Monir is represented by Joseph Veltre & Greg Pedicin at Gersh and managed by Brooklyn Weaver at Energy Entertainment; her attorney is Chad Christopher. Gersh and Energy are also representing publishing rights.
