Sony Corporation of America Cuts 30 Jobs
New York-based Sony Corporation of America has pink-slipped slightly more than 30 employees from its 700-person workforce.
A Sony spokesperson told Variety that the job cuts at SCA were part of corporate reorganization and unrelated to its California-based feature film business.
“A small number of positions were eliminated at SCA earlier this summer to consolidate duplicative functions and create a more efficient and stronger organization moving forward,” the spokesperson said. “These changes at SCA have nothing to do with Sony Pictures whatsoever.”
SCA is a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corp. and a holding company for Sony’s U.S. assets. Those include Culver City-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Beverly Hills-based Sony Music Entertainment.
In March, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced it would lay off 20 of its 600 marketing and distribution employees as part of a restructuring of the department after the studio has suffered a string of underperforming movies. Josh Greenstein, president of marketing and distribution at Sony, announced the changes in an email to staff, positioning them as a series of strategic moves to help adapt to a changing climate and bolster its international marketing.
