Sony’s AXN Sets Development Deal With Pinewood Television

Sony’s AXN international television network group has signed a development agreement with Pinewood Television for the U.K. production company to develop a slate of six new TV projects. The projects will focus on the action, crime and mystery genres, with the goal of bringing three new series to air in the next three years. The series will air on AXS networks in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The development slate will be led by Pinewood creative director Helen Gregory, who co-created “The Catch” for ABC.

“As we look for alternative paths to expand original series development, Pinewood TV make for the ideal partners,” Marie Jacobson, EVP, programming and production at Sony Pictures Television Networks. “We are thrilled to join hands with the team at Pinewood and look forward to developing projects that play both in the UK and on our channels around the world.”

Pinewood Television was formed in January as a joint venture between the U.K.-based Pinewood Group and Peter Gerwe’s StoryFirst PST. Jacobson and Gerwe negotiated the development agreement.

“We are proud to move forward to bring quality first run programming to the AXN networks,” Gerwe said. “Led by Marie, the SPTN management are fantastic to work with and our creative teams are a great fit. We are looking forward to bringing our financing capabilities to the market.”
