Son's book honors father's legacy in aviation, family and country

Jan. 31—CASTORLAND — The son of a Castorland native has written a book about his father, which he calls "a tribute to his enduring spirit, his contributions to aviation and his steadfast commitment to family and country."

The self-published, "Above and Beyond: The Story of Gerald 'Jarry' Leslie Lautenschlager" was authored by Stephen Lautenschlager. It celebrates the inspiring journey of his father.

Born in 1937 in Castorland, Jarry, now 86, continues to reside in his Layton, Utah home, reflecting on a life that epitomizes courage, dedication, and passion.

"Above and Beyond" chronicles Jarry's journey from his modest beginnings in rural New York to his remarkable career in the United States Air Force and his significant contributions to aviation and military service. Jarry's story remains a powerful testament to resilience and the pursuit of dreams. Stephen, currently residing in Texas, combines personal anecdotes, family narratives and historical context to paint a vivid portrait of a man whose legacy is as inspiring as it is extraordinary.

From tales of his childhood in Upstate New York to gripping accounts of his service during the Vietnam War, "Above and Beyond" offers readers a unique insight into the life of a true American hero. "My father's story, deeply rooted in the values of upstate New York, is a tribute to his enduring spirit, his contributions to aviation, and his steadfast commitment to family and country," Stephen said.

The author, a graduate of Lowville Academy, is an accomplished global corporate executive and business founder.

"Above and Beyond" is now available on Amazon in e-book, paperback and hardcover formats.
