"Sons of Anarchy" showrunner and creator Kurt Sutter has fans longing for the classic FX motorcycle club show with a new photo he shared on Instagram. In the shot, Charlie Hunnam (who played Jax Teller) is talking to Sutter on-set.
Sutter captioned the shot with, "Season 4 finale. 'To Be pt. 2' Charlie and I discussing how Jax dethrones Clay." That episode aired in 2011, so the photo was taken around that time.
SAMCROpedia summarized the critical episode: "History repeats itself when Jax's future in Charming and with the MC is finally determined. Potter's RICO case takes an unusual turn when the Gallindo Cartel reveals its true intentions. The vote is made on Hale's Charming Heights proposition. SAMCRO makes a shift in its member's rank."
The end of the episode sees Jax taking over as the new president of the club.
"SoA" alum Taryn Manning commented, "Yes! Best ever! So proud of you!"
Fans loved seeing the two together, as well. "Thank you for this show! Hands down the best series I’ve ever watched!" one wrote.
"You are a GENIUS!! Always misunderstood by the “norm” but embodied by the real!" another said.
"One of the best shows of all time. Took storytelling and character development to another level. I always recommend this show," a third commented.
Sutter spoke with TV Guide back when the episode first aired.
"For someone like Clay to be reduced to a guy who is wounded and weakened and has his f—ing patch ripped away? It is almost like a fate worse than death for Clay," Sutter said at the time. "It's the humiliation of it all. It's like he has literally been f—ing neutered. ... For a guy as hard and as alpha as Clay, that it is worse than if [Jax] just f—ing slit his throat."
Sutter shared a different throwback photo last month that appears to be from the same season. "Directing two legends.Charlie and the incomparable," he wrote.
