Do you remember when the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie came out and absolutely no-one wanted to see it? Then, they fixed the character model and we all thought, 'I'll just wait for it drop on Netflix'.

Well, now a Japanese trailer for the movie has revealed the existence of Baby Sonic, and now everyone we know wants to go to a midnight screening.

We're all just suckers for anything cute with big eyes, and Hollywood knows it.

While Sonic has had many iterations over the years, this is the first appearance of this little ickle Sonic since the movie is delving into his backstory. Hopefully, it won't be a dark and gritty origin story, though – we could not bear to see this little 'hog looking sad.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie was delayed from late 2019 to early 2020 so the visual effects team could create a new character model for Sonic after fans had a very negative reaction to the strange blend of realism and cartoony features. The new, more stylised model has received a much better reception.

Jim Carrey, who stars as villain Doctor Robotnik in the film, wasn't that convinced that fans should have been able to have a say in the movie. "I don't know quite how I feel about the audience being in on the creation of it, while it's happening," he said.

"Sometimes you find that the collective consciousness decides it wants something and then when it gets it, it goes, 'OK, I don't want it'."

Trust us, Jim. In this case, the fans are right.

Sonic the Hedgehog will speed into cinemas on February 14, 2020.
