Song Premiere: Kris Allen Lets You In With ‘I Remember You’

Fresh off his charming appearance during the audition rounds of the final American Idol season, Season 8 winner Kris Allen is preparing to release his fifth album, Letting You In, on March 18. And Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks is excited to exclusively premiere a track from the album, “I Remember You,” right here.

Kris worked on the album in his new home base of Nashville with producers Konrad Snyder (Mat Kearney, Owl City), Ian Fitchuk (James Bay), and Grammy-winner Brown Bannister (Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman), and he calls it his most personal album to date. The album is the culmination of a whirlwind three years that included a harrowing car accident that almost robbed him of the ability to play guitar; a departure from his record label; the birth of his first child and the announcement of his wife Katy’s second pregnancy; a move from Arkansas to Nashville; relentless touring; and songwriting sessions that yielded more than 70 new tunes.

As for this specific tune, Kris tells Yahoo: “I wrote it with Garrison Starr and Simon Gugula. We really felt like we had accomplished something when we finished writing this song. Every lyric and idea that was coming out was working. Believe me, it’s not always like that. Some people remember every little detail about an experience with someone: all the people that were there, everything that was said, what song was on the radio. I’m not one of those people at all. That’s where the idea of this song was born. This was our way of saying sweetly I may not remember that specific time or event or all the details, but I remember you were there.”
