For J Sutta’s rendition, “Damn! (I Wish I Was Your Lover),” she speeds the tempo up just enough and puts a more sultry spin on the vocals. She’s a fan of the song and its relatable lyrics.

“I used to listen to it and sing along as it captures the emotions of an impossible crush and desires the yearning and fantasy of being with someone who is unattainable,” she tells Yahoo Music about Hawkins’ original. “The song connects with those feelings perfectly.”

J Sutta, short for Jessica Sutta, is also working on her forthcoming album, Feline Resurrection, following her No. 1 dance records “Show Me,” “Gonna Get U” with Dave Aude and “White Lies” with Paul Van Dyk. The set will include production from Rico Love, Benny Cassette, Mams Taylor, and S-X.

“Damn! (I Wish I Was Your Lover)” will be released on Friday and can be purchased here.
