Son of Alabama co-offensive coordinator Mike Locksley shot and killed

The son of Alabama co-offensive coordinator Mike Locksley was shot and killed in Baltimore.

Per ABC 2 in Baltimore, 25-year-old Meiko Locksley was found bleeding from a gunshot wound on a sidewalk. He was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

A neighbor told ABC2 she heard what sounded like a firecracker through her open window. She went outside to see Locksley lying on the sidewalk, bleeding with his head in the grass.

According to police, multiple people called 911 reporting they heard a single gunshot outside of Locksley’s home.

Alabama coach Nick Saban said Monday that Mike Locksley is with his family in Maryland. Locksley was in Atlanta with the team Saturday night as Alabama beat Florida State. Late in the game, ESPN cameras showed him sitting next to former Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke in the coaches booth. Weinke is serving as an analyst for the Tide this season.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike, [wife] Ms. Kia and the entire Locksley family over this tragedy,” Saban said in his Monday press conference. “We’ll do everything we can to support Mike and his family in this time of tragedy.”

Locksley was named Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach before the 2017 season as the team added former New England Patriots assistant coach Brian Daboll as its offensive coordinator. Locksley served as an offensive analyst for the team in 2016 after he was promoted to interim head coach at Maryland in 2015 following Randy Edsall’s departure.
