Everybody stay calm because Marvel's Deadpool 3 is coming, and I'm already out here getting ready for it. Okay, it's been seven years. Seven whole years since the potty-mouthed, irreverent mercenary that is Wade Wilson was brought back to life in his own titular film, Deadpool, and again shortly after in the 2018 sequel.
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via giphy.com So, it's definitely been a while, and I'm excited to see Ryan Reynolds pick up that red and black mask again. Oh yeah. Because, seriously, how have we been waiting this long to get the third installment we all deserve?!
MTV / Via giphy.com But, fear not, as I'm here to fill that Deadpool- shaped hole in your heart. Yes, I've donned my investigative cape to unearth all the delightful deets about the upcoming release. Hold on to your chimichangas...
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via giphy.com Watch out for Deadpool and X-men series spoilers throughout this article.
1. Deadpool 3 assembles an all-star dream team of returning actors:Squad goals are in full force, as the film will welcome back:
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool: Of course, who else could play the fourth-wall-breaking antihero?!
Morena Baccarin as Wade's fiancee: Vanessa Carlysle returns.
Leslie Uggams as Blind Al: I'm sure we can expect the same wit and charm from Deadpool's roomie.
Karan Soni as Dopinder: The lovable and aspiring taxi driver is set to join the wild ride once again.
Stefan Kapicic as Colossus: The steel-skinned mutant must be having another break from his original crew, the X-Men.
Rob Delaney as Peter: Remember, Peter, the ordinary guy who found himself amidst extraordinary chaos?! You know, the one who nearly died!
Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio: Yukio's ninja skills are back!
Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead: Guessing this means we can expect some serious nuclear explosions?!
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via youtu.be / youtu.be / youtube.com 2. But, it's Hugh Jackman as Wolverine that we are TOO EXCITED for: That's right, not only will Wolverine himself be crossing paths with Deadpool, to offer the ultimate superhero collision of iconic characters...but, the ONE and ONLY Hugh Jackman is back! You can find him sharpening his claws, eek! I am so ready to have Wolverine back on screen again.
Gilbert Carrasquillo / Via via Getty Images 3. Because, don't forget, Jackman's Wolverine was never meant to appear again: After the 2017 events of Logan (if you know, you know), Hugh Jackman said he really was done playing the character. So, while we all took the news knowing that his character went out with a bang, and then some, Jackman surprised fans by announcing his return to the film. When asked why, he simply said , "I just wanted to do it, and I felt it in my gut."
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via youtube.com 4. And OMG, we'll be getting an Elektra cameo: That's right, after nearly 20 years, Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as Elektra in a most triumphant return. Garner first played the assassin Elektra in the 2003 film Daredevil opposite Ben Affleck, and then in 2005 for the titular film spin-off. This is exciting for a number of reasons for Garner and fans, and I'm also really interested to see what they do with the costume on this one!
20th Century Fox / Via youtube.com 5. Oh, and you better brace yourselves for some epic villainy because this new star is joining the squad, too: Emma Corrin, who you should know for their role in Netflix's The Crown, made one hell of a mark in the show as Princess Diana. You may have also seen them in Lady Chatterley's Lover and My Policeman.
While little is known about who exactly they will play, according to Deadline , we know that Corrin will be joining the side of the villains in the upcoming Marvel film. I for one am excited to see more on this casting choice!
Amy Sussman / Getty Images 6. Plus, this Succession actor will be making his MCU debut: Matthew Macfadyen, known for playing Tom in the Emmy Award-nominated show, Succession , (that's 27 Emmy nominations to be exact), will also be joining the Deadpool 3 cast . There have been no further details on what role the actor is set to play, so that leaves even more to be desired, but I do wonder if he'll continue his trend of taking on rather immoral characters...only time will tell!
Jamie Mccarthy / Via Getty Images 7. There's even speculation that Miss Minutes will make an appearance. Honestly, this is all too much to handle:@VancityReynolds / Via Twitter: @VancityReynolds
Is Ryan Reynolds messing with us, or will Miss Minutes actually feature in Deadpool 3 ? While we do not know for sure, there's definitely good reason to speculate given the fact that Reynolds went out of his way to tweet Miss Minutes.
For those that may have been living in another multiverse, Miss Minutes is an AI hologram that aids the Time Variance Authority, which has so far featured in Disney's Marvel series, Loki .
If this social media exchange is a small teaser to fans, then we could really be in for some time-bending fun!
8. Though, we’re still waiting to see if we will get Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz again: In Deadpool 2 , we were lucky enough to see Josh Brolin star as Cable, an X-men member, and the son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor. Cable is both a friend and foe to Deadpool, is a little on the wild side, and you just can't help but love his and Deadpool's complicated bromance.
Zazie Beetz also starred in Deadpool 2 as Domino, a former mercenary turned member of X-force, whose talent is to control probability.
Both stars were a great addition to the flare and action that we saw in Deadpool 2 , and I'm sure many fans (including me) have got their hopes up on seeing them again. What I can tell you, though, is that so far, there hasn't been an announcement of the pair returning, nor are they credited on the cast list on IMDb...so we'll need to keep our eyes peeled for if this is going to be a well-kept surprise, or actually, we won't be seeing the characters in the third installment.
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via youtube.com 9. But one thing's for sure, we certainly won't be seeing this guy: While Weasal may be Deadpool's best friend who guided the erratic mercenary through both films, the actor who plays him (T.J. Miller) is certainly not real-life best friends with Reynolds. Miller was not asked to sign on for Deadpool 3 after throwing some weird shade and comments into the media, so we can expect there'll be an information and arms dealer void in the next film.
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via youtube.com 10. And sorry to burst any swiftie's bubble (mine included), but Taylor Swift will not be starring: Yes, I thought this would pique your interest.
If you don't know by now, Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, are longtime friends with singer Taylor Swift. Swift is no stranger to being in front of the camera, too, whether it's her array of glamorous music videos, to her stints in Valentine's Day, The Lorax , and Cats.
But, the reason why fans got so caught up in speculation is because Reynolds's Deadpool 3 announcement video was filmed in the same house used for Swift's "All Too Well." Coincidence and good connections? Maybe, but fans also noted how Reynolds was walking around in the Folklore -esque woods.
While many were hoping all of these similarities were tiny easter eggs hinting at a Swiftie x Deadpool 3 surprise, I'm here to crush your dreams (sorry) and confirm that this is not happening. Reynolds said that he would actually love for Swift to feature , but it's not the case. Sorry folks!

Leading the charge with a mighty vision is none other than Shawn Levy: Director Shawn Levy, known for Free Guy , The Internship, and some impressive TV episodes (Stranger Things, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) will be at the helm of Deadpool 3 . He's the third director to take on Deadpool , following in the steps of Tim Miller and David Leitch.
Levy has proven he is great at crafting fun and entertaining storytelling, so I feel he will be an excellent fit for the role!
Phillip Faraone / Getty Images 12. And there's some extra snazzy names on the writers' board: Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin will be joining the Deadpool family as the first female writers. The pair are behind Bob's Burgers and Bob's Burgers: The Movie , so it's fair to say we can expect even more absurdist comedy to feature.
Rodin Eckenroth / Getty Images 13. Deadpool 3 is technically the first official crossover of Fox’s X-Men movie universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the film is a direct continuation of Deadpool 1 and 2 , it will be Wade Wilson's first official journey in the MCU.
With Spider-Man: No Way Home offering up a multiversal crossover of all three live-action versions of Spider-Man, and the 2019 Disney acquisition of 20th Century Fox, it really is no surprise to fans that Deadpool is going in this direction. But for those that don't know, let me clarify what happened: Fox previously owned the film rights to the character of Deadpool, but the potty-mouthed antihero is now in the hands of the House of Mouse.
Deadpool 3 will be considered a Phase 6 film in the MCU.

So far, parts of the movie have been filmed at Pinewood Studios, Pitstone Quarry in Buckinghamshire, and parts of London and Norfolk.
On weekends, you'll find me traveling these areas to spot a glimpse of Reynolds and Jackman. Just kidding... kind of.
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via giphy.com 15. The official plot hasn't been released, but we've got a few guesses as to what's in store: The cast and crew have kept their lips sealed on the storyline in order to build up the suspense and excitement, and as much as I wish that I could decipher Reynolds and Jackman's awesome video teaser, it's just not happening.
What we definitely know, though, is that the plot will center around Deadpool and Wolverine, duh. Also, with the leaked images and video footage of production that we've seen scouring the internet, we can 100% say that the pair will get hands-on with a bit of rough and tumble.
Could it mean that the film will take on the comic storyline "Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe"? Some fans may think so, but I'm not too sure. I'm going to take my chances and bet that this won't be the heart of the story, and instead, the pair will kiss and make up in order to tackle a much larger threat. That's usually the way, isn't it?
Either way, I'm very excited to see what comic this installment will bring to the franchise.
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via giphy.com 16. And we do know where it sits in the timeline of Wolverine's story: If you haven't seen Logan, then please do not read this paragraph!
For those that have, don't get your hopes up on a permanent Wolverine revival, because Deadpool 3 will sit on the timeline of events prior to what happened in Logan , and the events of the film will not impact the storyline and outcome of Logan, one way or another.
Now that we've got that out of the way, Jackman explained when chatting on the Empire Film Podcast that"None of us wanted to screw with that. I was really proud of that movie and what we did, and it felt perfect."
I couldn't agree more. Logan was truly a fitting and perfect ending, and it would have been such a shame to see that part of the story wiped, no matter how painful it was for fans to endure!
20th Century Fox / Marvel Entertainment / Via youtube.com 17. We've even seen THE SUIT: I know, I know, leaks from filming can be really bittersweet. On the one hand, they can truly add to building up the buzz around an upcoming film and aid in the speculation of the fan community sharing their hopes and dreams for what's to come in the story, but, they can also take away the surprise element.
That said, I was thrilled to see the shots of Wolverine's suit — THE SUIT —because of the nostalgia cemented in the classic yellow and blue kit. I mean, come on, it's iconic and a million times better than his first-ever live action black leather suit.
Plus, this suit paired with Deadpool's new vivid red suit, there's no better match.
Splash by Shutterstock 18. And for all of those who were concerned, rest assured, because it's still going to be R-rated. YAS: Don't get me wrong, we all love Deadpool for a number of reasons, but you have to admit, the jokes just wouldn't land the same if it was cut from an R-rating!
Luckily for us, when talking to Collider , Levy himself said they are having a blast laughing every day when writing Deadpool .
Plus, Levy also spoke about how he still regrets how he got pushed to cut down The Intern so that it would go from an R to a PG-13 rating, stating the R-rated version was way better.
So, I'd confidently say that we shouldn't be getting a toned-down Deadpool 3 , and I'm here for that!
Steve Granitz / FilmMagic / Getty Images 19. Mark your calendars (maybe?) because here's when Deadpool 3 is set to hit the big screen: Deadpool 3 will be chimichanga-ing its way into theaters on May 3, 2024. However, the current writer's and actor's strike in Hollywood will probably affect the release date.
