For several years, Scott Disick maintained a relationship with Kourtney Kardashian and even had three children with her. However, the couple wouldn't last as Kourtney decided to call it quits after multiple instances of Disick partying too much and flirting with other women.
Fast forward to 2017 where Disick began dating Sofia Richie, the daughter of Lionel Richie and sister to Nicole. At the time, it seemed very controversial, given the age gap between the two, but it has proven to be a good match, as the couple is still going strong.
In a somewhat bizarre gesture by Kris Jenner, at least superficially, Sofia and Scott have been invited to spend the holidays with the Kardashian-Jenner family, which should prove to be interesting. How did this go down, though?
Tagging Along with Scott Disick
While Scott and Kourtney may not be romantic with each other anymore, that hasn't stopped the two from being platonic and responsible parents for their children. This has included spending time with the family on various outings and holidays. Kourtney claims that she has moved on, which would seem to mitigate any potential drama that could unfold.
Enter Sofia Richie, Disick's girlfriend of two years. Inherently, her presence with the Kardashian family and Kourtney should prove to be an awkward experience, but sources close to the family don't think that will be the case.
In speak with HollywoodLife, a source shared, "Sofia is of course included in whatever Scott does with Kourtney Kardashian for the holidays." They continued, "The family is very last minute and still figuring out their plans, but they are trying to make it work so that everyone is happy. It sounds like Sofia will spend some time with her family and some time with Scott and Kourtney."
Past History with Sofia and the Kardashians
The overall ease in the situation comes from the connections that the Kardashian family has with the Richies. Sofia grew up with the Kardashian-Jenner family as a result of Kris Jenner's friendship with her dad, Lionel, and has even to this point, formed a friendship with Kourtney and becoming close to her three children, Mason, Penelope, and Reign.
And just last year, the 21-year-old joined the Kardashian-Jenner family for a vacation in Aspen, so although she's one of the younger children of the Richies, Kris and others in the family have made it a point to welcome her with open arms, considering her 'one of them'.
Kris Jenner as a Mentor
Central to including Sofia into the Kardashian-Jenner family has been Kris. She has not only become a mother figure for Sofia, but also someone who is a mentor for her career with modeling and her designer line of clothing.
A source close to the family revealed, "Kris Jenner, of course, made sure to include her. Kris treats her really, really kindly. She won’t not invite [her] to anything — the family has always treated her well and respected her."
During Kylie's epic birthday celebration that occurred in Italy last year, Kris and Sofia were spotted during some one-on-one girl's time, discussing how to further be successful with her modeling and designing lines of clothing. A different source dished on Jenner being a mentor to Sofia, sharing, "Kris has even been helping her with career advice this past year, which is worth its weight in gold."
Will It Be Awkward?
So, while superficially, it would seem that Richie joining the Kardashian-Jenner family for the holidays would be an awkward situation, that couldn't be farther from the case.
Another source speaking on Sofia's acceptance into the family and the overall dynamics of the relationships between them revealed, "Sofia is totally accepted by the Kardashians as one of them."
The source added, "Don’t forget they’ve known her and her whole family forever so it’s not like she was ever really an outsider. It was a little awkward at first just because no one wanted to do anything to upset Kourtney but as soon as she made it clear she was fine with the relationship everyone went above and beyond to make sure Sofia felt welcomed."
What sounds like an awkward time, could prove to be anything but that. We will have to wait and see, though.
